International Conference
11‒14 November 2019

How to get to Brno

Since the conference programme is going to start on 11th November in the evening, we recommend you to plan your travel for 11th November. Similarly, for the return we recommend the Friday 15th November, since the Thursday programme is going to end in the afternoon.

By train

Brno is well-connected to several major railway lines; it is situated on a direct route from Vienna to Berlin and from Warsaw to Vienna (with a change in Břeclav).

By plane

There is only a small airport directly in Brno. You can get there only from London, Milano and Berlin, regularly. Check the current flights here.

We strongly recommend flying to Vienna.

Participants are actually discouraged from travelling to Brno via the main airport in the Czech Republic, i. e. Vaclav Havel airport in Prague, since the journey from there to Brno is more complicated and takes longer (about 3.5–4 hours).

Brno benefits from its vicinity to the capital cities of the two neighboring countries - Austria and Slovakia. There is a direct bus line from Vienna Swechat Airport to Brno centre (Hotel Grand), with buses going in each direction almost every other hour.

The buses leave from stand 2 in front of the airport and the journey takes only two hours. A single ticket costs about 17 EUR (or 390 CZK) one way, refreshments included. Check the current times and buy tickets online here.

Please note that the tickets should be bought in advance. The bus driver will also sell a ticket to you on the bus, but only as long as seats are still available. The driver can also change your ticket to an earlier or later connection (for a small fee).

Should you wish to travel via Prague, you can buy a bus ticket with the RegioJet as well (this entails a bus change at the main bus station in Prague).

When travelling out of the country via Prague, you might want to add some extra time in case of traffic jams on the way.

How to get to conference venue

The public transportation in Brno is very efficient, with numerous buses, trams and trolleybuses serving the whole city and surroundings. There are two main points where lines connect: at the railway station in the south of the city centre and at Česká street in the north of the city centre, with trams lines going around the ring road.

The tickets are available from ticket machines or tobacconist kiosks throughout the city (20 CZK for 15 minutes, 25 CZK for 60 minutes; mostly you will need coins, but there are also some machines accepting credit cards at more important stops). Upon entering the vehicle, you need to validate your ticket in one of the stamping machines onboard as soon as possible.
