Lecture: Fabulae hodiernae Latine redditae

In the lecture author's Latin translations of extracts from three well-known children’s books shall be compared with their original English versions. The books concerned are Michael Bond's "A Bear Called Paddington" and the first two of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter books, i.e. "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets".
In the seminar (on Wednesday the 14th, 14:00, room A21) a Latin version of an extract from the third Harry Potter book "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" shall be produced.
The lecture is part of international Ph.D. conference Laetae segetes.
Biographical note
Peter Needham was born in Czechoslovakia and emigrated to the United Kingdom before the war. He studied Classics at Oxford University and spent most of his working life teaching the subject at Eton College. Among the classicists from all over the world he is well known as a translator of Harry Potter's two books and of "A Bear Called Paddington" into Latin.
