Is classical education in Poland undergoing an evolution, a revolution, or perhaps its final decline? In this talk, I will explore the current state of classical studies in Poland, reflecting on the role of Latin in high schools, the initiatives of the Societas Philologa Polonorum, and the presence of classical studies in universities, with a particular focus on Wrocław. I will also discuss private initiatives, such as independent classicists teaching online and digital platforms that bring antiquity to a broader audience. Are these developments signs of revival and adaptation, or a last attempt to preserve a fading tradition? By comparing these trends with broader international shifts, I will reflect on whether classical education in Poland is finding new life or slowly fading.

Dr. Katarzyna Ochman is an assistant professor at the Institute of Classical, Mediterranean, and Oriental Studies at the University of Wrocław. Her research focuses primarily on the works of Aulus Gellius and communicative approaches to Latin teaching, which she also applies in practice, notably as a co-founder and coordinator of winter and summer Latin schools conducted exclusively in Latin. She also serves as the president of the Polish Philological Society (Societas Philologa Polonorum).
