Literature and Totalitarianism

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Athens Polytechnic Uprising, Masaryk University is organizing the International Conference Literature and Totalitarianism, which will be held on November 15-16, 2023, at Brno, Czech Republic. We are now accepting proposals for individual papers on all subjects related to narrations about totalitarianism in national literatures. Among others, the conference shall discuss aspects of Power in literary texts, the role of literature in raising public awareness, the relationship between literary production and politics, memory and ideology, dystopian narratives regarding oppressive systems and literary texts in post-totalitarian epochs. The Conference aspires to contribute to comparative approaches regarding perceptions and narrations of totalitarian regimes. The official language of the Conference is English.
